Athens
Bars, breweries, and nightlife in Athens, Georgia
Athens is a college town built around the University of Georgia, and its bar scene is inseparable from its music history: the 40 Watt Club, open since the late 1970s, launched R.E.M., Pylon, and a wave of other "Athens bands" that led Rolling Stone to call it the best college music scene in the country. BarFinder lists 118 venues here, led by classic bars and sports bars, with a strong cocktail bar and brewery presence too - spots like The Royal Peasant and Bar Bruno add to a scene that runs from live-music dive bars to craft cocktails.
