New Bedford

New Bedford, once the world's leading whaling port and still known as 'the city that lit the world' for the whale oil it shipped globally in the 19th century (and the real-life port that opens Melville's Moby-Dick), has a bar scene led by sports bars and classic bars today - BarFinder lists 54 venues here. Local names like Le Beau's Tavern and the United Fishermen Club nod to the city's working waterfront history, while Pub 6t5 Bar And Grille and Ryan's Sports Pub and Billiards cover more typical ground. It's a blue-collar New England port-city scene with real maritime history behind it.
