Anaconda

Anaconda was founded in 1883 by copper baron Marcus Daly to house a smelter processing ore from nearby Butte, and the town grew so fast that within about a year it had roughly 20 saloons serving its mining and smelter workforce. BarFinder lists 20 venues in Anaconda today, mostly classic bars, plus a couple of breweries, a dive bar, and a wine bar. Club Moderne, built in 1937 and named "America's Favorite Historic Bar" by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, is the town's best-known surviving link to that saloon-heavy mining-camp era. Local spots like Whiskey Joe's, Haufbrau, and The Harp keep that same frontier bar-town character alive today.
