Amsterdam

Amsterdam earned the nickname "Carpet City" as the one-time largest rug and carpet manufacturing hub in the world, home to the mills that became Mohawk Industries before carpet production left the city by the late 1960s. BarFinder lists 20 venues in Amsterdam today, mostly classic bars and sports bars, including neighborhood spots like Shorty's Southside and Schotts Tavern. It's a small, blue-collar Mohawk Valley city rather than a nightlife destination, but its handful of bars, plus a newer distillery and brewery, show the same mix of old and new found across upstate New York's old mill towns.
