Westgate, in south Austin, has quietly built one of the city's better beer-and-wine mixes outside the downtown core - BarFinder lists 47 venues here, with classic bars in the lead but breweries and wineries both showing up in real numbers, including St Arnold Brewing Co. and Kamala Gardens Brewery. Sports bars and a scattering of dive bars round out a scene that feels more neighborhood-local than tourist-facing. Pins Mechanical Co., part of a duckpin-bowling-and-bar chain, adds a bit of a destination draw to an otherwise low-key area. It's a good pick if you want Austin's craft beer culture without the downtown price tag.
